In fact, sunshine and swimming are all it takes to keep the whole family happy. Luckily, Åland has plenty of both.
Åland offers more than 30 public beaches. You’ll find them in all directions, so there is always one sheltered from the wind. There are also beaches for every preference. Young children often prefer sandy beaches, while older children look for diving towers. Bambölevik in Finström has both – plus rocks, a lawn and picnic tables with a barbecue area. The beach is located in a sheltered bay where the water is often slightly warmer than elsewhere.
Sun and swimming every day
Popular with everyone is the long beach in Degersand, with an unbroken horizon facing the sea to the west. At this seaside spot, both children and adults enjoy jumping into the waves. When you need food or drinks, there is both a beach bar and a popular restaurant.
Västerviken in Haraldsby in Saltvik is also popular, with a sandy beach, diving tower and volleyball net, but it is not shallow. For families with younger children, Notplan in Kroklund is more suitable. It also has a diving tower, sandy beach and a beach volleyball court. Families with small children also enjoy Bomarsund in Sund, Knutnäs in Geta and Klockarholmen in Lemland.
Sinting beach in the village of Degerby on Föglö is a true archipelago gem. Here you’ll find a sandy beach, diving tower, bathing rocks, a beach volleyball court and even a guest jetty for those arriving by boat.
In Mariehamn, there are three child-friendly beaches: Nabben, Mariebad, Lilla Holmen and Gröna Udden.
