A lovely meeting place for wine, food and shopping can be found at Telegrafen on Torggatan 6 in Mariehamn.
Although Telegrafen is newly built, the façade blends seamlessly into the townscape – it feels as if the shopping centre has been here for decades. The building is also an attraction in itself, featuring Åland’s first living plant wall on the exterior and one of the city’s oldest stone houses from 1928 preserved indoors.
Wine bar and restaurant
The stone house was originally a relay station, but today it houses Åland’s only dedicated wine bar, decorated in an art deco style inspired by the elegance of the 1920s. Every Wednesday from 18:00, open wine tastings are held with different themes. At other times, sommelier Johan is happy to help you create your own tasting experience.
If you’d like something to eat, take a seat in the square outside the wine bar and enjoy cheese and charcuterie from Dagmars Delikatesser, well-filled subs and flavourful pasta from Subs & Pasta, or refined small dishes from the bistro.
A town within a town
With its square, alleys and shops, Telegrafen feels like a town within a town. The growing selection includes Åland’s tourist information centre, Alko, Zic Zac Butiken, Synsam, Designmagasinet and Dagmars Delikatesser.
