Different styles of music. Food and drink with archipelago flavours. Viking markets and Christmas markets. Åland has numerous popular events. Which suits you best?
Åland Dance Band Festival 10–15 July
The popular Dance Band Festival in the archipelago village of Degerby has taken the open-air pier dance concept to a whole new level. Here, you’ll be able to really dance up a storm at the seashore - indeed, the dance floor at Restaurant Seagram is built right up against the water. Enjoy yourself to the fullest with dancing, good food and a truly magical atmosphere.
Some of Sweden’s best dance bands will be performing during the festival.
Rockoff, 21–29 July
Åland’s biggest music festival is held on the town square in Mariehamn. There is a wide array of artists, with both new stars and old favourites. After-parties with live music are held in many of Mariehamn’s pubs.
Viking Market, 27–29 July
Viking associations from east and west gather in Kvarnbo for one of the biggest Viking markets in all of Europe. The Vikings live in tents, cook over an open fire and offer a wide variety of activities. Some sing and dance, while others like to fight. There are several buildings in the area built in the contemporary style. Food, drink and handicrafts are sold at the market.
Christmas markets
On the Saturday before the first day of Advent, you can get a little taste of Christmas when the Ålanders celebrate “Little Christmas” with the traditional Christmas market at the Jan Karlsgården open-air museum. In addition to this, several Christmas markets, including in the Maritime Quarter and Mariehamn town square, are also held in December.
