Ferry terminals in Åland

When you take the ferry to Åland you arrive in Mariehamn, Långnäs or Berghamn.

The ferry harbour in Mariehamn

The ferry terminal in Mariehamn is situated in the western part of town. The distance to the town centre is about 1 km, in other words within walking distance if you are travelling light. There are taxis outside the terminal. In the summer the bus company Röde Orm also offers a sightseeing train from the harbour to the town centre.

The ferry harbour in Långnäs

The great passenger ferries from Viking Line and Silja Line make port in Långnäs in Lumparland instead of in Mariehamn. From Långnäs there is a 30 km drive to Mariehamn along road 3. Transfer with bus or taxi to Mariehamn can be booked directly from the shipping lines. Note that you have to make an advance reservation.

Also note that you arrive to Åland and Långnäs in the middle of the night. This is important to know when you make reservations for your accommodation - if you book your accommodation for the same day as your arrival, the check in is not until noon.

Långnäs is also the end harbour for the archipelago ferries in Ålandstrafiken's Southern Line. The ferries operate from Långnäs, through the Åland archipelago to Galtby on the Finnish mainland. Contact Ålandstrafiken for booking and further information. The archipelago ferries' timetables can be found in the brochure "The Archipelago Guide".

The ferry harbour in Berghamn

The Eckerö Linjen ferries operate in between Grisslehamn in Sweden and Berghamn in Eckerö in Åland. The distance from Berghamn to Mariehamn is 35 km along road 1. Buses operate for a fee, to and from Mariehamn in connection with the arrivals and departures of the ferries.
