“Ytspänning” – a centre for outdoor living and activities
In Åland nature experiences and activities await everywhere. You will find them in the air, on the ground, on vertical cliffs, along the water’s surface and down at the bottom of the sea.
It is all about parasailing, hiking, cycling, paddling, kitesurfing, climbing, diving, well, all attractions on nature’s fair-ground.
Great knowledge and experience
With so many alternatives it may be difficult to know what to choose. A tip is to start with a visit to “Ytspänning” at Lilla Holmen in Mariehamn.
Here resides three activity companies; Friluftsentreprenörerna S.G.U., the adventure vessel Hagge.nu and Larsson’s Vattensport have collaborated to offer a great selection of Åland’s open air and adrenaline activities under the same roof. From paddling and climbing to water sports, diving and boating excursions.
“It is mainly a cooperation between our products”, says Christian Ekström, diving instructor at NAUI for Hagge.nu. “We offer easily accessible packaging of activities in the water and on land for both groups and individuals.”
All under one roof
The outdoor centre offers gear for rent, courses to book, guided tours and in the shop clothes, gear and accessories. All under one roof.
“During our opening hours the centre is always staffed and the staff available will of course accept bookings for any of our activities”, says Jan Kankkonen at Friluftsentrepenörerna S.G.U.

“We have collected all outdoor knowledge here and happily help with advice about activities and gear”, says Jan Kankkonen, who is a certified NIL-help instructor (Nordic instructor license, sea kayak) and Wilderness First Responder of WMA (Wilderness Medical Associates).
