Meet wild animals in Eckerö
Fallow deer, red deer, ostrich and wild boars are a few of the animals you can meet at the Käringsund wildlife safari. Come along for a tour in the game pasture and experience the exciting animals up close!
Meeting wild animals in a wild life safari is fun for both young and old alike. For 45 minutes you are guided through the game pasture in a safari tram made for 40 persons. During the tour you will even get a chance to pet and feed the mighty deer.
Kimmo Lyytynen is guide and drives six tours through the game pasture daily. Before the tour starts he talks about the wild boars. A gasp is heard through the tram:
“When we stop by the wild boars, please do not put your hands inside the fence. The wild boars are nearsighted and may think your hand is food!”
Cute wild boar pigletsWhen the safari tram stops at the large pig’s enclosure, all children run forward and point wide eyed and fascinated at the curious animals.
“There is Elvis, our largest boar”, says Kimmo while the great pig confidently guards its flock.
In the large enclosure several small wild boar piglets run around. Kimmo informs that this year there are especially many piglets because two litters have been born as opposed to normally one.
Feed directly from your handAfter awhile with the wild boars a group of red deer approach us. The children get barley from Kimmo that the deer eat directly from their small hands. The beautiful animals are accustomed to the situation and according to Kimmo they are the most popular animals, despite the competition from cocky ostriches and cute piglets.
“The red deer are probably the children’s favourites, they always come close and happily eat directly from their hands.”
The tour with Käringsund’s wild life safari departs in the summer six times daily from the gravel yard outside the Åland Hunting & Fishing Museum. After the tour you may buy Käringsund’s own wildlife products in the safari shop.
