The first Atlantic voyage!

The Labbas Homstead- and bank museum is located in Storby, Eckerö. The farm was built in 1810 and was a traditional farmstead where shipping played a big part. The young captain Johan Ekblom that grew up here, was the first ever from Åland to cross the Atlantic. This event took place in 1865 with a ship named Preciosa.

Labbas, which is managed by the Eckerö home district society, also contains a small bank museum. The Eckerö home district society also manages the mail route museum and arranges the yearly Postal Row crossing of the Åland Sea.

The mail route museum, that is located in the northern wing of the Eckerö mail and customs house, shows the hard lives of the farmer’s involved with the postal services at a time when the mail route to Sweden went by Eckerö.
