The Kökar Museum

The Kökar museum was initaited by the Kökar home district association in 1988. The museum consists of utility articles from the do-it-yourself household times at Kökar, totally different from today’s modern society. More than 300 photographs tell a story about the natives of Kökar; their daily life, their clothing and way of living until the end of the WW2.

The museum is housed in Hellsö-Österbygge old school building. At the area, that the Kökar home district association rents from the Kökar municipality, there are also a newly built log house, built in old style in the Kökar fashion, a boat- and engine hall, a small farm-museum, a smithy and a ceramics shed.

During the summer season, there will be activities arranged every day either in the ceramics shed, the smithy, in the harbour or elsewhere in the area.
