Travel to Åland with these shipping companies

A sea voyage is an exciting beginning of your trip. Several fine shipping companies traffic from Finland and Sweden to Åland.

Viking Line, Eckerö Linjen, TallinkSilja tai Ålandstrafiken - which will you choose?

 


 

VIKING LINE

Viking Line's red/white ships you can travel to the Åland islands from both Sweden and Finland.

From Sweden:

Stockholm: The ferries depart from Vikingterminalen" in Stadsgården, Tegelvikshamnen. There is a bus for a fee to and from Cityterminalen at the time of arrival and departure. The sea voyage is 5.5 hours. Arrival to Mariehamn or Långnäs in Lumparland, which is about 30 kilometers from Mariehamn. Bus from/to Långnäs can be booked in advance by contacting Viking Line.

Kapellskär: From Stockholm it is about 90 kilometers to Vikingterminalen in Kapellskär, Norrtälje. There is a bus for a fee to and from Cityterminalen at the time of arrival and departure. The voyage is with Ålandsfärjan and is 2.5 hours long. Arrival in Mariehamn.

From Finland:

Turku: The ferries depart from Slottshamnen in Turku. Bus services for a fee with local buses to/from the city centre. Also trains in the morning and evening. The ferry ride is about 5.5 hours. Arrival in Mariehamn or Långnäs in Lumparland, which is about 30 kilometers from Mariehamn. Bus from/to Långnäs can be booked in advance by contacting Viking Line.

Helsinki: The ferries depart from Skatudden in Helsinki. The sea voyage is about 11 hours. Arrival is in Mariehamn.

ECKERÖ LINJEN

Eckerö Linjen's flag ship M/S Eckerö you travel quickly across the Åland Sea from Sweden. The ferry ride is just 2 hours. The ship traffics in between Grisslehamn in Roslagen (about 115 km from Stockholm) and Berghamn in Eckerö, Åland.

Bus for a fee to/from Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan in Stockholm and from Berghamn to Mariehamn in Åland at the ferries´ arrivals and departures. Also bus connections from Uppsala, Öregrund, Sandviken/Gävle, Falun/Borlänge and Västerås.

SILJA LINE

Silja Line's white fleet with the blue seal bring you to Åland from both Sweden and Finland. The shipping company is now part of the AS Tallink Group.

From Sweden:

Stockholm: The ferries depart from Värtahamnen. There is a bus for a fee to and from Cityterminalen at the time of arrival and departure. The sea voyage is 6 hours. Arrival to Mariehamn or Långnäs in Lumparland, which is about 30 kilometers from Mariehamn. Taxi to/from Långnäs can be pre-booked via Silja Line.

Kapellskär: From Stockholm it is about 90 km to the Silja terminal in Kapellskär, Norrtälje. There is a bus for a fee to and from Cityterminalen at the time of arrival and departure. The sea voyage across the Åland Sea is 2.5 hours. Arrival in Mariehamn.

From Finland:

Turku: The ferries depart from Turku harbour. Bus services for a fee with local buses to/from the city centre. Also trains in the morning and evening. The ferry ride is about 5 hours. Arrival in Mariehamn or Långnäs in Lumparland, which is about 30 kilometers from Mariehamn. Taxi to/from Långnäs can be pre-booked via Silja Line.

Helsinki: The ferries depart from Olympiaterminalen in Södra hamnen. Connection with trolley 3T or 3B for a fee to/from the city centre. The sea voyage is about 12 hours. Arrival in Mariehamn.

TALLINK

Tallink's ships you travel to Åland from Sweden or from Estonia. Just like Silja Line, the shipping company Tallink is also a part of the AS Tallink Group.

From Sweden:

Stockholm: The ferries depart from Fridehamnsterminalen. There is a bus for a fee to and from Cityterminalen at the time of arrival and departure. The sea voyage is about 6 hours. Arrival to Mariehamn.

From Estonia:

Tallinn: The ferries depart from the D-terminal. Walking distance from the town centre. The boat ride is about 13 hours. Arrival in Mariehamn.

ÅLANDSTRAFIKEN

Ålandstrafiken are an alternative to the large passenger ships. Remember to book your trip well in advance by calling +358 (0)18 525 100, especially in the summer when there are many passengers.

From Osnäs: The Northern Line will take you, via the islands Brändö and Kumlinge, to Hummelvik in Vårdö. Osnäs in Gustavs is about 80 kilometers from Turku. If you have a car the whole journey is about 4 hours including one change of ferry and 22 kilometre's car drive in between the villages Åva and Torsholma on Brändö.

From Galtby: The Southern Line will take you from Galtby in Korpo (some 75 km from Turku) via Kökar, Sottunga and Överö in Föglö to Långnäs in Lumparland on the main island. The sea voyage is about 5 hours.
